My skate soundtracks have changed over the decades. Back in the late 90s to early 2000s, I would record underground hip-hop radio shows on cassette and listen to them on my boombox whenever I would go skate (inspired by Chad Muska).

But now, I've been experimenting with listening to different genres of music when I skate like Ambient, House, Techno, Shoegaze, Downtempo, really anything goes when I'm on my board.

Hey, since you skate, what are your thoughts on Flatlandia?

So I’m not much of a freestyle skater. It’s super cool just not for me. I like my stairs, ledges and manny pads. I do have a lot of respect and admiration for the freestyle guys tho. Some of their tricks are wild 🤯. I certainly can’t do them. I mean I can casper flip and stuff but it’s not the same. So yeah, I’m happy someone is out there pushing for freestyle to be cool again. I feel like it was dying for a while. It would be tragic for the sport if it did. It’s our roots. Where modern day skateboarding evolved from. If it wasn’t for freestyle we wouldn’t have the kick flip or any other flip trick for the matter. But yea I’m here for it ❤️

Also I love that they have a whole website dedicated to freestyle. That’s super cool. Honestly it’s a really good resource for anyone wanting to or already into freestyle skateboarding.

I'm out at the skatepark (the main one in my city) and it's like I've stepped into a nostalgic time capsule.

- some teenagers are bopping to "What Makes You Beautiful"

- one kid is following a skateboarder, crouched down on a board behind him, framing a trick with his hands before he tries filming it, like I've only ever seen on 90s skate films

- the milennial dads are skating too

- there's a few emo/goths sitting in a circle smoking

- kids are playing with tech decks

- strangers talk to each other

- phones are replaced by skateboards in people's hands

- a couple of people are leaving some graffiti behind

All those skateboard dudes I thought were cool & cute in middle/high school literally have kids they ain't supporting, in and out of jail or rehab.

Brah, I just think people don't know what to do with their lives and something along the way gets fucked, and it all fucking spirals.

What's really a trip, is that that could have been me.
